Health Insurance for Ohio Children - Post Reform
The Ohio Department of Insurance plans in the next few days to issue an emergency rule that officials hope will entice health insurers to reverse decisions to stop offering policies for Ohio children on the individual market to avoid federal health reform requirements, Columbus Business First reported.
Several of the state’s largest carriers, including Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio, Aetna Inc., Cigna Corp., Humana Inc and UnitedHealthcare, have stopped selling new plans for Ohio children because of the federal requirement that they may not turn down anyone under age 19 with a pre-existing medical condition. That requirement took effect Thursday September 23rd.
None of the insurers are discontinuing existing policies.
